At Rotherfield we meet the requirements of the National Curriculum, while ensuring that our learning environment stimulates, encourages and challenges our pupils.
Maths and English (including language, phonics, spelling and grammar) are taught every day. We teach a range of other subjects (ideally through themes that overlap with other curriculum subjects).
- Science and Computing
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
- Art and Design
- Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
As of September 2016 all classes are for one year group only. The class teacher/s (for job shares) cares for and teaches their class for the majority of time during the school day. On occasion, teaching will be undertaken by another member of staff, while the class teacher/s undertakes other duties, such as completing PPA (planning, preparation and assessment), training, and observing.
We acknowledge that each child is unique, with their own preferred learning style and pace of learning. We encourage children to challenge themselves to work to the best of their ability. In each class, our pupils are grouped to best meet their learning needs. There is a mix of ability and non-ability grouping depending on the lesson activity.
