Transitioning to school

Starting primary school is an exciting milestone, but we understand it can also be a significant change for both children and their families. At Rotherfield Pre-School, we help every child develop the confidence, independence and resilience they need to make a positive and successful transition into school.

Throughout their time with us, children are encouraged to develop important life skills through everyday experiences. Simple responsibilities, such as helping to set the table for snack time, tidying away resources and practising dressing and undressing independently, help build confidence, self-esteem and a sense of achievement.

Supporting children's emotional wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Through stories, conversations and our Emotion Monsters, children learn to recognise, understand and talk about their feelings in a safe and supportive environment. We encourage them to understand that every emotion is valid and help them develop the language and confidence to express how they feel.

At Rotherfield Pre-School, children enjoy a rich variety of learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity and independence. We encourage every child to explore, ask questions, experiment and use their imagination through carefully planned play-based activities that support all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum.

Our engaging indoor environment offers opportunities for arts and crafts, messy play, sensory experiences, carpet time, construction activities and imaginative role play in our well-equipped home corner. These experiences help children develop communication, social skills, problem-solving abilities and confidence while making learning fun and meaningful.

We are proud to provide an environment where children develop a remarkable ability for exploration, imagination and independent decision-making. By nurturing every child's wellbeing alongside their learning and development, we help them become happy, confident and well-adjusted learners who are fully prepared for the exciting next step into primary school.
